Why Having Your Own Software Business Can Be More Profitable Than Selling eBooks
If you are looking to make money online, there’s a good reason to get into the software business. With virtually no overhead involved the software business can be so profitable.
Aside from on-going support costs, the profit potential is only limited by the demand of the general public.
Sure you can sell e-books but software products usually have a higher perceived value. If you are selling niche software, you can price it higher.
The reason for this is that software has a much longer user life than ebooks. It can be used repeatedly over and over again to solve certain problems or help you accomplished certain tasks.
If you create an ebook, it might be read a couple of time the most. This is the reason why you can usually priced a software higher and an ebook.
Unlike ebooks, you can allow potential customers to try your software for free using the try before you buy shareware marketing model.
This is one of the most effective marketing methods to market software. Obviously you can’t do that with ebook, you just hope your potential customers have enough trust on you that they’ll finally buy the ebook.
Many successful business figures in the Forbes’ Wealthiest American earned their fortune from the software business and one of the most famous one is Microsoft’s Bill Gates. Like Microsoft, you don’t have to develop the perfect software, it just has to be popular.
You software just has to fill a need and do its job reasonable well. If you can do that, you’ll be on your way to profitability.
If you are a beginner, I wouldn’t recommend you to develop a general application where you’ll end up competing with the giants. If you create another office application hopefully to overthrow Microsoft from its throne, you’ll definitely fail.
What you should do is find you market with a need and develop an application to fill that need. If you are the only player in that niche, the chance for you to become successful will be much higher.
This topis is very true…but to have our own software is not in your grasp if you cannot make a sofware…one thing, you can outsource…
Hi Gaman, I plan to release my software under GNU - open source.
I would try to make money thru online & offline training.
Even thou online training is much simpler, I believe there is a serious market opportunities in offline training too, especially in a franchised system.
I would own the Malaysian branch of the business, while for other countries, I would open for Master Franchisees.
Thanks this is a great resource. But I notice it has been a while since you last update. You must be up to something big now!!
